Davis, A Dictionary of the Bible). God’s name is His self-revelation (Charles Ellicott, A Bible Commentary). The name signifies the active presence of the person in the fullness of the revealed character (J.D. Douglas et al., eds., The New Bible Dictionary).

14 And God said to Moses, “I am that I am.” And he said, “So you must say to the Israelites,[a] ‘I am sent me to you.’”

15 And God said again to Moses, “So you must say to the Israelites,[b] ‘Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,[c] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my remembrance from generation to generation.’ 16 Go and gather the elders of Israel and say to them, ‘Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,[d] appeared to me, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, “I have carefully attended to you and what has been done to you in Egypt.”
